Hermit in the heat!

The heat has been intolerable these last few months! With 40 + degrees meaning a short walk to the local shop turns into an all mighty sweat, I've transformed into an indoor hermit!

Owlpoo is in the process of business plan writing.Very soon the website will undergo further changes, and the stories will be part of a school incentive scheme program designed to persuade children to read. Features will include unlockable codes on books, characters you can print out and create and much more. Watch this space!

I've been doing a lot of research on Children's Publishing, I picked up this AMAZING book from Amazon called "Writing with Pictures" by Uri Shulevitz. It has such invaluabe advice for putting together your story/picture book. Methods such as storyboarding, creating a dummy book, page and text layout are all covered wonderfully! My hours before bedtime are engrossed with trying to cram in as much new information as I can from this masterpiece of a book!

I'm delighted to be working with Anne Millen and providing the illustrations for her story. Without giving too much away, it's a cleverly written manuscript describing the cycle of a hermit crab. I've come up with a very rough storyboard and sketches of zoeas (baby crabs!) and the character choosing it's shell! Will post full colour spreads soon.

For a side project, I've started painting a mural in James' room! The villa is soon to be demolished, and so many paintable walls are going to be turned to rubble. :( I've started creating a Desert scene featuring two Arabic men enjoying each others company surrounded by wildlife. It's just one of many murals that I aim to create as part of my portfolio. If anyone in the UAE would like a mural for their nursery or school, then give me a shout!

Owlpoo.com is an interactive site created using hand drawn Organic Illustration and Animation. Aimed at children of all ages, its purpose is to entertain and educate. Parents and teachers can read along with the stories, or children can interact directly with the characters and objects on stage.

Owlpoo.com - A learning curve...

Owlpoo is officially back from holiday and working hard to the bone!

During my time in Thailand I gained a lot of inspiration and new ideas relating to stories and the website layout. Currently owlpoo shows a forest scene and will contain forest animals. I want to create new environments such as desert, (inspired by Dubai) rainforest (Thailand) and many more!

In between modeling jobs I can continue working piece by piece. Slowly but surely things are beginning to come together.

My mission was to complete the "foxgloves" story by February. Have all scenes animated and uploaded. However, I'm quite a slow animater, and through doing this uploaded short scene, realised that I'd made quite a few mistakes whilse making this animation. I should have layered things, and through spending nearly 4 days on this short upload, I think i've learnt a lot, and know how to complete the next animation in a shorter time, and produce it better quality.

In order for the website to be fully launched and functionable, I'm going to approach working on it in a different way.Foxlgoves is going to have several static illustrations now with text, in order to demonstrate page layout to viewers. There will be an interactive element which I will announce in due time ;)

Next week I'm going to begin on sketches, then delve straight into fully coloured illustrations. The menus of the website will change, but I don't want to reveal all my secrets too soon! ;)

Here is the scene where the fox picks up a glove, a digging animation will come before this eventually. Unfortunately when I upload it here it loses quality (same as youtube).

In Dubai next month there is going to be a writers fair! I'm straight there, as new writers may need a illustrator! especially childrens writers! Must print out temporary business cards!
